- Fatigue…
- [1053]thought-provoking at that time, but the evidence and solution may not sound that persuasive.
- i think it has a clear, coherent and systematic logic, which leads the readers step by step further into the topic and the points made by th
- Don't like the style: a lot of assertion, a lot of self-repetition, and nothing much of a theoretical framework :(
“It is easy to see the concrete details that trap the suburban housewife, the continual demands on her time. But the chains that bind her in her trap are chains made up of mistaken ideas and misinterpreted facts, of incomplete truths and unreal choices.”
- Fantastic book on feminism, especially for the late 20th century in America
- Historically significant
- It's kinda old cliche but a classic as well. I f I wanna talk about feminism I have to get to know it. But as a feminism related book, it’s too shallow and never touches the deep root of the problem
sex-directed education。
- Explains EVERYTHING.
- 美国女性主义浪潮之初每个白人中产家庭主妇人手一本的自助手册,作者的心理学背景体现在第五章和第十一章和弗洛伊德的纠缠中:penis envy is not applicable to females but to homos; feminine mystique could also be feminine guilt. 作者本人的政治立场转变也折射冷战文化特点:the whole cold war culture is gendered, classed, and homophobic...Fundamentally devalues women's works by thinking men's jobs are more respectable and valuable.
Maybe the social wave could really be sooooo overwhelming that you could't jump out of the formula.
- “Even today a young man learns soon enough that he must decide who he wants to be. He must somehow come to terms with it by twenty-five or the thirty,or he is lost. ” “I think women had to suffer this crisis of identity, which began a hundred years ago,and have to suffer it still today, simply to become fully human.”
