- Her questioning of love and sexuality in Chapter 6 is particularly inspiring. Erotic energy is essential, enriching, and intensely human. it’s tight control leaves us physically and emotionally alienated, places a lid on our desires, and cripples our capacity to meet one another as equals. But alternatives on child independence is not convincing.
- The horror associated with the anti-utopian society is largely derived from the fear of patriarchal power structure. What Firestone has drawn in her blueprint, however, is the exact opposite of this structure.
Firestone, a founder of radical feminism, brought together the dialectical materialism of Marx and the psychoanalytic insights of Freud in an effort to develop a materialist analysis of women’s oppression that was inclusive of the dimensions of class and race
- chapter 6 has changed my life!
- Reading a lot about feminist movements in the past years, I never met a radical feminist as straightforward as Firestone. It is a good timing to reread her book on the abolition of genital differences and the entire biological family structure. #A big fan of Firestone. Chris
- Some chapters appear fascinating, e.g. the interpretation of children and women's oppression via Freudianism, while some are less convincing such as the attempt to equate racism with sexism extended.
